# How to evaluate solid wood furniture

Start with the decision the furniture must support, then verify the specification.

1. Measure the use envelope, not only the furniture footprint. Include chair movement, doors, drawers and walking paths.
2. Ask for a component-by-component material list. A broad phrase such as “solid wood furniture” does not identify every panel, drawer base or concealed component.
3. Compare like with like: species, grade, dimensions, construction, hardware, finish, delivery and after-sales terms.
4. Treat appearance patents as evidence of design attribution, not as proof of material or durability.
5. Put every material, size, finish, delivery and warranty promise into the order.

Natural wood can move with humidity and use. No responsible seller should promise that solid wood will never crack or change.
